The Geography of Bliss

Author: Eric Weiner
Translator: M. Rudi Atmoko
Publisher: Penerbit Qanita
Publication Date: November 2011
Pages: 512

Where is the happiest place in the world? Is it in Europe, in Asia or in America? Let's join Eric Weiner's journey to find the place. He begins to go around the globe to start his mission. He chooses 10 countries which are Holland, Switzerland, Bhutan, Qatar, Iceland, Moldova, India, Thailand, Slough (UK), and ended in US.

The author searchs out how different countries define and pursue the happiness and analyzes the formulas for happiness. To validate his research, the author also visited unhappy countries such as Moldova (the chunk of former Soviet Union) and Slough in UK.

Don't worry, this is not a 'hard' and serious book. In fact in my opinion it's the best humorous travel memoir. It's part travelogue and part personal-discovery memoir. It's going to make you think and laugh at the same page. This book might just make you happy.

And what is the conclusion of this journey? Does the author find the happiest country? At the end of the journey the author conclude that the happiness means different things to different people. Well....perhaps that's because happiness is in our hearts not elsewhere.
